This was the bathroom that a mother of a severely disabled girl used to give her daughter a shower, in a special chair.
She had to setup the chair in the shower and then carry her daughter into it banging her legs into the wall.
As you will see from the new bathroom pictures this is no longer a problem.
She now can either roll her into the new shower or carry her in, without any obstructions.
We reversed the swing of the door, having it open out instead of into the small space.
We removed the tub, shower curtain and vanity. We chipped all the existing tile off the walls and floor and changed the shower valve body to a pressure valve (this valve keeps the water temperature constant while flushing the toilet or running the faucet). We also installed a diverter
valve and a hand held shower to help in the showering of her daughter.
A triple custom made shower door was installed in chrome and clear glass allowing extra clearance through the entrance to the shower. The toilet is inside of the shower behind the doors, this allows the extra room needed under these special conditions. The floor is ramped up to the shower door track leaving only the track to roll over. We also installed a pedestal sink, this helps in the visual effect of making the room seem larger.
We installed tile on all the walls and floor. The floor tile is a non-skid and the wall tile has a design 3/4 up the wall to add interest.
Two additional lights were added in the shower ( Halo brand High Hats with vapor trims).
A seat was added in the corner opposite where her daughters chair goes.
